Getting Started

Before I go into church reviews, I should probably give a brief introduction as to why I'm doing this. Growing up, I was always really interested in religion, as someone who was raised with a Jewish father and Christian mother. While my mom never really took me to church, I often went to shul with my dad, who was a backup for their minion. Because he'd often be there for most of the day, I would entertain myself upstairs until we could go. While I got to celebrate both holidays, I never felt like I fit into either, and I looked for my own religious identity.

In university, Religious Studies was my minor, and I really enjoyed learning about the beliefs and practices some of the religions that were discussed. In my third year, I had the chance to study in Australia, and experience a new side of religion. The most spiritual part of my trip was going out to Uluru and learning about the religion and beliefs of the Aboriginals.

I decided to try picking a church and denomination to join when I got back from Australia. I tried a few, before I settled on the one that I am currently at. However, I'm going to be moving home soon, and will be looking for a new church in my home city.

I started this blog because when I was looking for a church to join, I realized that there was a basic lack of resources that would have made my decision a bit easier. While a lot of websites talked about the architecture of the buildings, I was looking for something that examined the mass itself, the friendliness of the parish, and the music. My goal in writing this blog is to inform people about what goes on in each church in an honest, open review, primarily in North America, although my travels I'm sure will take me to other churches in the world! Although in my title I say "Church", I plan to review synagogues and other places of worship. If you have any questions/suggestions/thoughts, I'd love to hear them!!
